- I have a zoltrix 1440 modem with an rpi chip; after much fun and games
- with it i discovered that you need the right kind of software to make
- an rpi 1440 modem connect with compression and error correction (which
- should get you 57600bps and be quite reliable)the 'bitware' that was
- supplied with mine was fine for connecting to friends machines and
- bbs' etc but no good for internet and although i fed in the
- appropriate init strings i simply could not get my access providers
- software to make it connect at 57600 (because the software was not up
- to rpi)at first i blamed the fact that this software was a free
- assortment of shareware/freeware etc and that when i bought turnpike
- all would be fine.no.In fact i have not found _any_ 'netware that
- will let you use rpi modems. (but what is annoying is that they
- usually include an init string that suggests it should work in their
- setups!!!!!!) any way if you are keeping your rpi go to the following
- page: http://www.nb.rockwell.com.ref.reference.html#RPI and download
- the appropriate driver which will let you use your rpi modems full
- power.............................as long as your dialling software
- and winsock dont mind. turnpike does mind and wont have any truck with
- it (althpough it starts off with an exciting carrier speed of
- 120000bps). peter tattams (?) trumpet winsock works for me, so does
- demons windis, free agent, fimail, and netscape1.22 although some
- people say netscape gpfs with it. if your modem is a zoltrix use lycos
- to find the unofficial zoltrix homepage for it is useful.BTW dont lose
- heart everybody told me to throw mine away but after sticking with it
- it works very well and because of out trials and tribulations i feel a
- close bond between me and my zoltrix, either that or all the hours of
- hunting down rpi info has made me very 'sad' indeed. good luck.
